Best Summer Vacation Spot – Fontana on Geneva Lake

Hi Darling!

How is summer almost over?! Do you feel like summer goes by faster each year?! I do! We squeezed in a vacation to Fontana, Wisconsin to spend a few days with family on Geneva Lake (I prefer to call Lake Geneva!) before summer is officially over. It was absolutely wonderful!

As a kid, I grew up in Chicago and my grandparents had a lakehouse on Geneva Lake so we spent lots of time up there in the summers! I have so many good memories from the lake and I am incredibly grateful for those special times with my grandparents, parents, aunts, uncles, siblings, cousins, and friends we made there. My husband and I would love to have a second home there (#goals). Sharing this special place with both of our kids was a dream come true! If you haven’t been, I highly recommend visiting and I think you’ll understand why I love it so much. Below are the must-do’s when visiting!

MUST-DO:

  • Walk the Geneva Lake Shore Path…gorgeous homes and great views of the lake! If you are feeling ambitious, the entire path around the lake is 26 miles and would take 8-10 hours to complete. This is definitely on my bucket list to do one day!
  • Put your bathing suit on first thing when you wake up and don’t take it off until the sun goes down!

  • If you are visiting July-October, you must buy the very best locally grown sweet corn from Pearce’s Farm Stand. This little farm stand has grown so much over the years… they have live music, famous jumping bales with slides and tube rollers and a REAL John Deere Combine, tractor-pulled wagon rides, pre-picked produce, corn maze, lookout tower, a human hamster wheel, and more!

  • If you eat meat, brats, in particular, Lake Geneva Country Meats is the place to go. The running joke between my husband and my family is that we eat brats ALL the time so I would 10/10 recommend trying their brats! lol
  • Purchase groceries (except for corn and brats!) from Sentry, now called Daniels Foods, located in Walworth. Fun fact my dad worked in their meat department back in the day and that’s where my mom first saw him! (You need to try the Red Raspberry Kringle! Their cinnamon rolls are pretty delicious too.)

  • Grab a coffee or light breakfast at Coffee Mill By the Water. (I recommend an iced Oat Buddy.)

  • Dinner at Gordy’s Boat House. (Get the Yacht Club Chicken Warp –it’s the BEST!)
  • Enjoy live music on Gordy’s Boat House patio. (All ages enjoy it –watch the video below!)
  • If you’re looking for a nicer dinner, Pier 290 is really good!
  • Visit Chuck’s Lakeshore Inn for a drink! This is where my mom and dad officially met and hung out for the first time!

  • Take in all the sunsets over the lake!

  • Must try the broasted chicken from Daniels Foods… how could I forget! My Grandma ALWAYS served this and apparently, it’s “healthier” than KFC! haha
